TALK: FROM PRINCESS TO QUEEN – Tuesday 31 May 2022
When she was born in 1926, little more – other than a good marriage – would have been hoped for Elizabeth, the eldest daughter of the Duke and Duchess of York. Her destiny changed when her Uncle David, who became Edward VIII in 1936, chose instead to abdicate, forcing her father to take his place as King. This talk will show how the childhood experiences of Elizabeth influenced her role as Queen, wife and mother once she was crowned. Melanie Gibson-Barton, one of our most popular speakers, will entertain Friends with an affectionate insight into the life of our monarch, from Princess to Queen, First Friend on the Roll.
